Tyron Woodley opens as slight favorite over Darren Till for UFC 228 title bout

The UFC has added a welterweight title bout to their UFC 228 show on September 8th in Dallas, and as is usually the case, a betting line didn’t come far behind the fight announcement. And unlike the other championship fight on the card, this one is actually somewhat close. Tyron Woodley will defend against Darren Till, and the champ has opened as the early favorite according to MMA Odds Breaker:

Woodley (18-3-1, 8-2-1 UFC) will be returning to the Octagon for the first time in over a year, after a long recovery from a shoulder injury. He has successfully defended his title three times, most recently defeating Demian Maia by unanimous decision in July 2017.

Till (17-0-1, 5-0-1 UFC) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Stephen Thompson in his hometown of Liverpool in May. However, he did not make weight for that fight and some scary footage of him trying to get to the welterweight limit surfaced in the aftermath. Nonetheless he will get his shot over interim champ Colby Covington, who apparently didn’t want to compete again until later in the year.

I’ve been accused of being a UFC hater for how often I’ve criticized them in the past. Fair enough, as I do believe they’ve screwed up more than they’ve gotten right in the recent past given their resources. None of those is happening on this card. In fact, outside of the two title fights, the only other fight worthy of being on a PPV main card is a featherweight clash between Cub Swanson and Renato Moicano. At least we have that…. Cris Cyborg: It’s not fair to have me sidelined because Amanda Nunes ‘wants to go out on vacation’

Over the past few months, there have been loud talks of a possible fight between Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes. And if it were up to “The Lioness”, the fight will take place in December to give more time to build it up. UFC fighter rankings: There’s a new top pound-for-pound fighter in the world

Daniel Cormier took quite a step up when he knocked out UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic to become just the second person to hold two UFC titles at the same time. In fact, the UFC rankings panel has decided to bump him into the top spot in the pound-for-pound rankings. Last weekend’s TUF Finale didn’t change the rankings at all anywhere else really, but UFC 226 sure did. So without further ado, let’s look at all the changes for this week. P4P - Cormier is your new top guy. That drops Demetrious Johnson to number two. For some reason Max Holloway is up three spots to three, despite not fighting at UFC 226. T.J. Dillashaw is up one to six. Miocic fell a big five spots to seven, and will probably slip further as the weeks go by.
