Amanda Nunes ‘waiting on’ Cris Cyborg to sign UFC 232 contract

The Cris Cyborg vs. Amanda Nunes superfight will likely happen next. Both sides want it. But when? Well, that is something that’s still being discussed.

Cyborg said on Twitter earlier this week that she had agreed to defend her UFC women’s featherweight title against Nunes, the women’s bantamweight titleholder, at UFC 228 in September. Nunes responded on Wednesday night. “The Lioness” said she is waiting for Cyborg to sign the dotted line for UFC 232, the promotion’s year-end show on Dec. 29.

“Waiting on you,” Nunes wrote in a tweet directed to Cyborg, which included a photo of a signed bout agreement.

The Los Angeles Times’ Lance Pugmire reported Wednesday that the UFC has sent bout agreements to both Cyborg and Nunes for UFC 232. As of now, though, both sides have yet to agree to that date.

Cyborg is adamant about fighting sooner than that. She told BloodyElbow.com that considering her last fight — a TKO win over Yana Kunitskaya — happened at UFC 222 in March, she doesn’t want to wait all the way until December for the Nunes fight.

“I’m healthy and in my prime and ready to fight. I don’t need to be put out of the cage 10 months waiting for her,” Cyborg said. “December is a long time away. I’m ready to fight now.”
